Some Helpful Online Dating Etiquette Hints

Spell It Out
In this computerized, digitized, short-hand, texting age, we often create a second text language out of the need for speed and the awkwardness of typing with our thumbs!

However, when it comes to matchmaking online, think about how important messages are from someone you are getting to know – or with whom you are creating a romantic relationship. If you use “U” for “you;” “4” for “for;” “2NTE” for “tonight;” or “AH” for “at home,” you may just be shortening your luck to take it any further. Think about it. If you care enough about a person to want to get to know them and pursue a romantic relationship, the investment you show in your written messages should demonstrate that. Abbreviations in language can show that the person is not worth the investment of time to spell out exactly what you want to say.

Spell Check
Imagine you are attracted to someone but get a message from them filled with spelling and grammar mistakes. You’re just going to overlook that and not have any reservations about this person, right? Not so much. As we mentioned above, if the person is worth pursuing, then they are worth a quick spell and grammar check. You wouldn’t submit a job application with typos. Finding a life partner is a care-full (what do you mean by this – “care-full”?) road to travel, and perhaps the most important thing you will ever do.  Take the time to spell and grammar check. As poet Robert Frost said, “and that has made all the difference.”
